4 Tips for 4th of July with Pets
It’s hard to believe, but the 4th of July is almost here! We love this time of year, especially now that we can start to safely see our family and friends again. And while our pets love to be outside with friends and family too, it’s important to take a few safety precautions to make sure everyone enjoys the holiday.
1. Keep the Space Safe
If you’re having an outdoor BBQ, you probably will have to deal with pesky mosquitos and flies! Citronella is a great, natural way to deter mosquitos but make sure you keep your pups away from any candles, tiki torches, or oils you may be using. Ingestion can cause upset stomach and in serious cases can be toxic.
2. Keep their Regular Diet
We know friends and family like to sneak your pets treats but try and keep the burgers and hot dogs for the hoomans. Human food (although very tasty) can upset your fur baby’s stomach. Let your guests know ahead of time that you’re trying to only feed your fur babies pet food during the gathering.
3. Get Exercise
One of the best ways you can prepare your pups for summer festivities is to make sure they’re getting plenty of exercise. Try taking them for a walk each morning and before big events to get their zoomies out.
4. Try Calming
Fireworks and sparklers are the quintessential activity for the 4th of July and while they’re amazing, they can be very scary for our pets! We recommend leaving your pets at home where they can be safe and secure during fireworks. Make sure you make them feel extra safe with some toys, a comfy bed or crate, and maybe some soft music. Try giving them Pet Naturals Calming 30 minutes before the festivities begin to help reduce stress.
