Employee Product Review: Calming chews by Pet Naturals® of Vermont

Summer is just around the corner, which means added stress for pets. No, we aren’t talking about the same kind of stress that humans have. Luckily, pets don’t have jobs or relationships or finances to worry about, but both cats and dogs experience other types of stress, especially in the summer. Vacation travel, thunderstorms, and 4th of July fireworks can create anxiety and bad behavior, such excessive shedding or barking, scratching furniture, going outside the litter box, or other destructive behavior.
To help with this, I recommend that you keep plenty of Calming on hand this summer. Not familiar with Calming? Calming is designed to support calm, balanced behavior, without causing drowsiness or changing your pet’s personality. It is not a drug, and it doesn’t contain herbs. It can be used daily or as needed during stressful situations.
The employees here at Pet Naturals® of Vermont have at least one pet, and some of us have a foster home full of pets (Calming is also perfect for multi-cat homes and boarding)! We would not recommend these supplements if we didn’t give them to our own pets. Like most cats, my cat, Nella, is finicky and does NOT like to go to the vet. She also pees on the bed if she’s scared or nervous, or if I am gone for long periods of time. This doesn’t happen that often, but if you are a cat owner, you know how difficult it is to get that smell out!
Originally, my vet recommended pheramones. You’ve probably seen them; they look like Glade Plug-ins, but instead of essence of lavender, they are filled with essence of kitty to help cats chill out. They are also super expensive, so I was relieved to find an affordable product that works! I give my cat Calming chews any time there’s potential for her to get stressed, whether it’s taking her to the vet or leaving plenty of Calming with a house sitter while I’m on vacation. In fact, I’ve had such a good experience with Calming that I would recommend it to anyone with a cat or anxious pet.
Always speak to your vet before giving your pet any new supplement or new diet. But I feel comfortable giving Nella our Calming chews because I know that the ingredients are simple, effective, and produced in a facility that follows strict guidelines to ensure quality. Plus, I can give her more in times of added stress.
The best part about Calming is that it is available in a chicken liver flavored chew that my cat goes nuts over, and she is one picky eater. In fact, we play a “game” in which she hunts the chew and chases it around my apartment. You can see her pictured above with her eye on the prize. I have a 9-yr-old male German Shorthaired Pointer. We rescued him at age 6, and from the first month we had Herschel, he was anxious. He had to be monitored 24/7, and I had to crate him all the time, even if I just went to take a shower. He will eat harmful items when he’s panicked and/or frustrated.
