Up for Adoption

“She just loves to jog. Maybe there’s a little Greyhound in her—just the way she moves.”

Dani, a long time Oh My Dog employee and volunteer at All Breed Rescue in South Burlington, is talking about a beautiful, active and very curious young dog: Aurora.

Aurora came to Vermont from a high kill shelter in South Carolina. When she arrived, she was way too skinny, says Dani. It took her a while to get back to a normal weight, and back to our general human standard for obedience. But Aurora’s a friendly and excited pup, despite her past hardships, and she’s learned a thing or two from obedience training while at All Breed.

Now, she’s simply looking for a home. Her current home is a bed at All Breed, which Dani says Aurora has a habit of keeping very neat. She’s a talker—one whose curiosity and happy disposition make her an invaluable member of her own shelter dog crew.

Those traits could also make Aurora an invaluable member of her future forever home. But many people avoid adopting pets that have a lot of energy—the same goes for pets that have been at a shelter for a year. Those two things feed off of one another, and the rejection by would-be adoptive families unfortunately perpetuates the whole cycle by keeping Aurora in the shelter for even longer.

We could tell from her love of the outdoors and her friendly attitude that Aurora’s ready to move on. She is between two and three years old, according to Dani, and walks very well with a harness, though a collar isn’t her strong suit.

As one of the dogs who’s been in the All Breed program for the longest time, Aurora’s no stranger to meeting strangers. But she is a stranger to the kind of devoted love only a forever home could provide. Don’t you think it’s about time this beautiful dog finds the place she truly belongs?
