Skunk Smell Removal: The Pet Naturals Way

Skunk Smell RemovalIt’s happened to the best of us: You let your dog outside right before bed. You’re sleepy and excited to curl up and start those REM cycles. And then the smell hits you. At first it is so strong that you’re not even sure if it’s a skunk. But alas, it is.

Your dog got skunked! Now what do you do? We have the solution for skunk smell removal. This is the best way to get that smell out of your dog, but try to use this solution as soon as your pet gets hit.

2-3 Tablespoons Dawn dishwashing liquid

1/4 cup of baking soda

1 cup of hydrogen peroxide

1 cup water

1/4 cup pet shampoo (we like Clean Shampoo + Conditioner in one)

Put these in a bottle and shake (careful– it will start to fizz right away, so don’t point it to your eyes). Apply and lather this solution all over your dog and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse well.

We recommend a second wash in the areas that got hit the hardest (usually face and neck) but be diligent about not getting this solution in your dog’s eyes. There are some sacrifices; the solution can be very drying to your dog’s skin, so a good conditioner like our Silk Conditioner is highly recommended. The conditioner in the CLEAN shampoo is also a plus.

Finally, remember to keep these ingredients in the cupboard at all times. You don’t want to have to run to the store with a stinky dog in tow!
